چکیده
The patient is an 86-year-old male, who performed activities of daily living independently and a history of ischemic heart disease, chronic atrial fibrillation, diabetes mellitus type I and hypothyroidism. He consulted due to back pain and mechanical instability, without previous trauma. It was accompanied by a harmonic progressive kyphosis, reductible when upright and recumbent. The physical examination showed increased anteroposterior curvature of the spine, which conditioned contact of the ribs to the pelvis and was reduced when prone (Fig. 1), with slight flexion of the knees and retroversion of the pelvis. The remaining physical examination was unremarkable. Radiographs were performed and on the lumbar spine (anteroposterior and lateral) showed no significant alterations except for degeneration. With the suspected diagnosis of camptocormia, we requested a CT scan of the lumbar spine which

A case report of thoracolumbar paraspinal myopathy as the cause of camptocormia in a patient with atypical parkinsonism
BACKGROUND Camptocormia is severe flexion of the thoracolumbar spine, exaggerated during standing and walking but minimized in supine position. Even though camptocormia is a relatively common condition during the course of Parkinson's disease, there is ongoing controversy concerning its mechanisms. The most widely accepted and yet still disputed one is dystonia. However, based on myopathic chan...
متن کاملAn examination of camptocormia assessment by dynamic quantification of sagittal posture.
OBJECTIVE Camptocormia is a disabling pathology of the axial system that debilitates patients in their daily life. To date, there have been no studies evaluating the impact of camptocormia on walking performance. This study presents a new method for assessing sagittal posture under walking conditions in patients with camptocormia. DESIGN The severity of camptocormia was evaluated by measuring...
متن کاملA study of assessments of camptocormia
Introduction Camptocormia (or bent spine syndrome) is defined as abnormal posture, with marked flexion of the thoracolumbar spine, increasing during walking, and disappearing in the supine position. This definition is not so clear, and indeed, there are no consensus criteria for diagnosing camptocormia. Consequently, the prevalence of camptocormia is difficult to determine. More often, the diag...
متن کاملAcute camptocormia induced by olanzapine: a case report
INTRODUCTION Camptocormia refers to an abnormal posture with flexion of the thoraco-lumbar spine which increases during walking and resolves in supine position. This symptom is an increasingly recognized feature of parkinsonian and dystonic disorders, but may also be caused by neuromuscular diseases. There is recent evidence that both central and peripheral mechanisms may be involved in the pat...
متن کاملCamptocormia: A Rare Axial Myopathy Disease
Camptocormia [from the Greek words: kamptos (to bend) and kormos (trunk)] is characterized by an abnormal posture of the trunk; the condition involves forced thoraco-lumbar flexion that increases during walking and disappears in the recumbent position. Camptocormia was first described by Brodie in 1818, who suggested that lumbar pain and abnormal curvature of the spine might be caused both by d...
